The Owls team is a made up of amazing Y5 and Y6 children and three adults, Mrs. Groves, Mrs. Lamont and Mrs. Marshall. In Owls, we provide an inclusive, supportive and nurturing environment, where all individuals are celebrated.
Our big focus in Owls, is helping our children to become ‘secondary ready’. With this in mind, we have three key focuses: independence, resilience and responsibility.
Having skills and strategies to draw upon to be an independent learner makes such a difference to children as they look ahead and prepare for the transition to their secondary school. Having that confidence and self-belief to have ownership over their learning builds self-esteem. We develop resilience through an exploration of growth mindset thinking and problem solving activities across all areas of the curriculum and we develop the sense of responsibility through upper key stage 2 roles such as worship leaders, register monitors, school council leaders and library monitors.
Over the year, in Owls, there is a huge emphasis on ensuring our learning is creative and challenging. We explore exciting and thought-provoking themes, which encourage the children to be curious, dig deeper and make connections with previous learning and across the curriculum.
There is also lots of learning outside the classroom, with trips to support class work, sporting endeavours and our biennial residential visit to PGL Swindon.
To celebrate the year end, Owls take on leading roles in our annual summer performance performed to children and parents.
