Wishing you a very warm welcome to Chaffinches class page. In Chaffinches, we believe that learning should be both engaging and enjoyable for all children. We aim to provide a fun and supportive environment where children can foster a love of learning and make a seamless transition from KS1 to KS2. As a mixed key stage class, we value the model of peer mentoring, allowing children to share knowledge and skills, support and encourage each other and take increased responsibility for their own learning progression. We combine the year 2 and 3 national curriculum to provide a broad and balanced range of themes for children to study. Enrichment is very important to us at Urchfont School. This is achieved in Chaffinches class through theme immersion days, educational field trips, visitors from members of the local and wider community, whole school theme programmes and much more. On Tuesdays during terms 1-4, we swim at a local secondary school. We also enjoy a term of Forest School experiences, which link to our theme study or science topic. These sessions take place in the beautiful Oakfrith Woods, right on our doorstep with a qualified Forest School instructor. In Chaffinches class, we cover a multitude of skills for physical activity and sport through our lessons with a qualified secondary school PE teacher and specialist sports coaches. These lessons include both traditional and alternative sports.

We cover a range of history and geography-based themes throughout our two-year rolling programme. These include the study of Ancient Egyptians, Romans, The Great Fire of London, Rainforests, Extreme Earth, Explorers and many more. Each theme provides a different experience, knowledge and a wide variety of learning techniques. Each year, we choose one theme to showcase our learning in an assembly with friends and family. We also perform an annual Nativity play with Robins class which is a highlight of our calendar.

As parents, your involvement is vital to your child's success. We encourage open communication via class email and parent consultations and invite you to participate in the life of the school by attending events. Together, we can create a supportive community that enhances the learning experience for all children in Chaffinches class.
